Trek to the Langtang valley is one of the most preferred treks in the Langtang region.  And when a trip to Gosainkunda Lake is added to the trek, it becomes more interesting. Both adventure seeking people and religious devotees choose this trek. The trek offers strikingly enchanting views of mountains, glaciers, valleys and hills. The major highlight of this trek is Gosainkunda lake, which is the largest lake in the region with the surface of 34 acres and situated at the altitude of 4,380m/14,370ft. The lake flows down to form Trishuli river and remains frozen during the winter. The lake also has religious significance for Hindus and Buddhists. Devotees consider the water from the lake as holy water and visit the place to take bath. During Janai Purnima festival in August, thousands of pilgrims visit this place from across the Nepal as well as India.

Apart from the religious significance, the Gosaikunda area is highly chosen by the trekkers because of its richness in natural beauty. Trekking through the region offers you a splendid view of mountains along with eye catching landscapes. Mostly the trek requires uphill climbing but the picturesque beauty around and the view from the top of the hills will make you forget the arduous walk.  In addition to Gosainkunda lake, there are other 108 lakes in the area, which is also another reason for increasing number of trekkers in this region. You will come across many icy lakes during the trip. People take dips in these lakes considering the water holy although the water is ice cold. Most of the lakes are also named after gods and goddesses.

In the higher altitude, there are no vegetation and human settlement.  You will get a chance to play with ice and the eye catching a view of snow upon the dark mountain and rocks will leave you feeling mesmerized. The snow makes a kind of pattern upon the rocks and it is extremely appealing to watch.
