Jomsom Muktinath trek is one of the parts of Annapurna circuit trek and Jomsom is the capital of Mustang district. This is a popular trek both for national and international tourists. The trek will take you through beautiful landscapes and hills. You will be exploring the region of lower Mustang in this trek. The major highlight of this trek is a hike to Poon Hill and Muktinath. From the top of Poon Hill, you get to view the exquisite panoramic beauty of the Annapurna and Dhaulagiri ranges with a view of Peaks like Annapurna south, Himchuli, Machhapuchre, Tukuche, Dhaulagiri and many others. Muktinath (God of Salvation) is one of the religious places in Nepal where devotees throng from all over Nepal. The place is equally famous as a tourist destination. The 108 water sprouts and abundant fossils found in this area make it very special for the tourists and religious people.
The world’s deepest gorge Kaligandaki gorge also lies in Annapurna region and is most incredible to watch. Throughout the trek, we can find various temples and monasteries. The region is populated with Mongolian Tribe and mainly Thakalis and Magars reside here. You will get to observe the rich cultural and traditional practices of these people. Apart from this, the striking natural beauty with a magnificent close-up view of the mountain, the ever-expanding vast landscapes, valleys, and gorges make the Jomsom trek the famous and most sought trek in the Annapurna region.
Itinerary
Upon your arrival at Tribhuvan International Airport, we offer you pick up facility from the airport and manage your stay at the most comfortable hotel in the city. You get to meet the team of trekkers and together we prepare for the trek. At the evening we offer you lavish welcome dinner with authentic Nepali Cuisine.
We offer you a short trip to historical and cultural sites around Kathmandu valley: Boudhanath Stupa, Swayambhunath Stupa and Pashupatinath temple. You can also do some souvenir shopping during the sightseeing. After sightseeing, we head back to the hotel and get our clothing and trekking equipment ready and prepare for the trek.
We start with a drive from Kathmandu to Pokhara- the famous tourist destination in Nepal. During the journey, we enjoy the natural landscapes and beauty of green hillside. Upon reaching Pokhara we head for the hotel and take rest. We might roam around the city. We will spend the night at Pokhara.
We start early with a drive from Pokhara to Nayapul. Upon reaching Nayapul we start preparing for the trek. The trek starts from Nayapul and our destination for today is Tikhedhunga. After getting ready, we start walking along the bank of Modi river. Walking further ahead, we head toward Birethanti. From there the trail will pass through the Annapurna conservation area. We walk through a couple of villages, forests and hilly areas. We will also have a chance to view some waterfalls along the way. The walk will continue until reaching Tikhedhunga. We will spend the night at Tikhedhunga.
Our trek will start with an uphill walk. The walk through narrow trail and stony steps take us to the village of Ulleri. Along the walk, we will get to see the magnificent view of Annapurna south and Himchuli. Walking further up, we pass through the Banthanti village and colourful rhododendron forests and reach Nangethanti. From Nangethanti we head towards Ghorepani. We will be spending the night at Ghorepani.
Today we will reach the major destination area of the trek and that is Poonhill. We wake up early in the morning and start taking uphill climb towards the top of Poonhill so that we do not miss the magnificent sunrise view. We watch the amazing sunrise along with a view of Mount Dhaulagiri, Mount Annapurna, Himchuli and many other highest peaks from the top of Poonhill. The view is beyond explanation. We enjoy the beauty around and take snaps together. We then head back to Ghorepani. After breakfast, we start the trek towards Tatopani passing through chitre village. We move ahead passing the Sikha and Ghar Khola villages. We then reach the suspension bridge over Kali Gandaki river. Crossing the river we reach Tatopani (meaning hot water). There are natural hot springs around the region. We then explore the area for some time. We will be spending the night at Tatopani.
Leaving Tatopani behind we head ahead catching the trail along the Kaligandaki river. We come across many small villages along the way. Walking further ahead we reach Dana where there is the deepest gorge between Mount Dhaulagiri and Annapurna. We then come across the suspension bridge. Crossing the bridge and moving ahead we get to view the beautiful waterfalls. We continue our walk and move ahead passing through many small villages on our way. We finally reach Ghasa. We will stay for the night at Ghasa.
From Ghasa we catch the uphill trail that takes us to kalapani. We can have a pleasing view of Mount Annapurna and Dhaulagiri along the way. We walk ahead alongside the Kaligandaki river. We then shortly reach Larjung village after passing through the suspension bridge. The village is highly populated with the Thakali settlement. We then head towards Marpha via Tukuche village. The village(Marpha) has the best scenic beauty with the neat settlement. There is also apple farming in the village which is interesting to observe. We will spend the night at Marpha
From Marpha we start the trek towards Jomsom. We pass through many streams and brooks on our way. These add beauty to our trek. We then walk towards on a ridge of the river and reach Jomsom village. Jomsom is a windy valley. So, to prevent from getting disturbed by the heavy wind we start ahead early walking through the bank of Kaligandaki river. There are abundant fossils found in the bank of Kaligandaki river. We then take uphill climb until finally reaching Kagbeni. There is an ancient Red Gompa and we will be visiting the place. We will spend the night at Kagbeni.
Today there will be mostly uphill climbing. We will start the trek walking towards Jharkot. We walk ahead until finally reaching Muktinath. The place is of religious importance to both Hindus and Buddhists. People take Muktinath as God of salvation. There are many other temples around the area. People take bath in the 108 water sprouts with a belief that it will clean away the sins and consider the water holy. We explore the area and spend the night at Muktinath.
Today we will not be trekking ahead to any destination. We will explore the religious and historical sites in the area along with enjoying the natural beauty around.
Today we will be heading back to Jomsom. We will pass through many villages that we came across on our way to Muktinath. We take a walk downhill and then along the bank of Kaligandaki river. We might have to face the strong wind on our way to Jomsom. Upon reaching Jomsom we will take rest and prepare for our night stay at the lodge there.
Today we will be taking an early flight and heading towards Pokhara. We can have an enigmatic view of Mount Annapurna and Dhaulagiri during the flight. Shortly we will land at Pokhara airport. We will take rest for some time and spend rest of the day exploring the beautiful city. We will be spending the night in Pokhara.
Today we head back to Kathmandu from Pokhara. We take good rest and soothe our aching muscles. We also muse over the exciting trek we had. At Kathmandu, we organize farewell dinner for you and celebrate the successful completion of the trek and prepare for final departure.
Today is the final day and we get ready for the departure. We offer you the facility to drop at the Tribhuvan International Airport. We exchange final greetings and wishes and hope to see each other next time as well. We wish pleasant journey and bid the final goodbye.
